8:00 PM

Georgia State University’s Center for Collaborative and International Arts is pleased to present “Mauricio Kagel: Film Music, Music Performance, Performance Film”.

The German-Argentine composer who died in 2008 is most noted for his theatrical contributions to classical music performance. The evening will offer two of Kagel’s short films “Unter Strom” and “Antithese” and performances of Kagel’s “Schattenklange” for bass clarinet and “Match for Two Cellos and Percussion”. “Match” is a dialogue for two celli with a percussionist serving as the umpire. It is not only a match in sounds, but also in physical reactions, keeping the umpire busy! Performed by Bent Frequency—a professional, contemporary chamber music ensemble based in Atlanta—and in collaboration with Frequent Small Meals of Atlanta.

Please join us Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 8:00pm for this free concert at the Rialto Theater of Georgia State University. A reception will precede the concert at 7:00pm in the Rialto Theater lobby.
The delightfully idiosyncratic works of French composer Georges Aperghis are recognized as some of the most groundbreaking combinations of the theatrical and musical worlds. Special guest artist, New York soprano Haleh Abghari, will be performing Recitations, a virtuosic tour de force, and La Nuit en Tete, a chamber work with fleeting and provocative evocations of nocturnal imaginings. The program will also feature the dynamic Graffitis for solo percussion, and Simata for prepared piano.

This concert is presented in conjunction with the Odysseia Symposium at the Center for Hellenic Studies at Georgia State University.

*Funded by The French American Fund for Contemporary Music, a program of the French American Cultural Exchange (FACE) program with major support from SACEM and BMG Music Publishing, and by the Center for Collaborative and International Arts (CENCIA) at Georgia State University.
